Q:

Hello, I had unprotected sex on 18th February and took Postinor 2 the next day but before 24 hrs. My period is due 4th March but I noticed spotting (brownish) on the 2nd and 3rd of March. Is it possible I am pregnant or is it just my period?

I am also experiencing cramps as I often do at the beginning of menstruation and it's my first time taking emergency contraceptive.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question.

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. If you have a 28 to 30 day menstrual cycle, and your period was due to start on March 4, you may have already ovulated by the time you took the pill.

The brown spotting could be implantation bleeding, which indicates you did become pregnant.

If the discharge does not increase to a flow, this is not your period. Then take an early response pregnancy test. For the most accurate result, test in the morning;use the urine when you wake up.
