Iv been on birth control for a while now. I'm pretty good about taking all of them. Recently I missed one on Saturday night (my last third week pill) and had sex with my boyfriend Sunday. And i realized I missed the pill Sunday night so I doubled up and took both. He says he didn't think anything happened, but a little might have gotten inside me.. I should start my period within a few days.. but I am still worried..

Hi, thank you for the information.
My last normal period was June 28th. The unprotected sex was on my 7th day (July 4th). So three days after my period ended. In the last several months I got my period on the 2nd of each month, usually, so that was when I was expecting it.
In my past periods I would start light enough to call it spotting but then within hours or later that day it gets heavy for 4-5 days continuously.
As an update for the second day of this "period" since I figured it just stopped I decided to use a panty liner and after 8 hours three maybe four very faint brown spots was there. I just find it alarming because by now its usually heavy.
Since yesterday was light, but did cover it to the point where I thought I got it, should I just consider it a one day period? Or should I wait it out another day or two to see if it comes back? If it doesn't when should I test?

Thank you for your time!

Hello katiee21,

Cerazette is an oral contraceptive pill that you take every day of the month to avoid getting pregnant. It is commonly known as the "mini pill". It contains a synthetic progestogen, similar to the natural progestogens produced by the body.

If you have been taking Cerazette each day, then you would have been protected against becoming pregnant following sexual intercourse on July 16.

Hello Anonymous,
When was your last normal menstrual period? When is your period due? When did you have unprotected sex?

What you experienced is spotting. Occasionally, a woman may have spotting a day or two before she actually starts her period.

If your period is late by one week, take a pregnancy test.

Is this Spotting? Yesterday I got what I thought was my period. But it was very very light, it covered it enough of it where I thought I got it. So I figured it would get heavier like normal. But when I woke up this morning it could barely cover even part of it. And a few hours later it was just one spot. Normally its heavy by now accompanied with cramping. And I have no signs of pms. Now that its later in the day there's just nothing.

I also might add I normally get my periods first week of every month. And when I do I get pms the next day. Which should be today.

Should I wait it out until it gets heavier? Or does this sound like "spotting"? Also when should I test? We had an "accident" earlier this month but I figured it was early enough in my cycle were I would be OK.

Thanks for your help.

Hello nat22,
It is normal to not start your period exactly on the first day of taking the inactive pills. Some women will begin their periods on the second or third day. Your period can continue while you are taking the first few doses of the active pill.

Think of it this way. Switching from active to inactive pills is not like turning a switch on and off. Your body needs time to adjust to the changes in hormone levels.

I hope that I have answered your question. Be patient.

Hello nat22,
Try to relax. You doubled up on your birth control pills once you realized that you missed a dose. That is the recommended thing to do.

Since it was the last active pill and you were a day away from starting the inactive pills, you should be fine.

No need to worry. High stress levels can delay the start of your period.

Thanks for the advice. Also, is it normal to not start your period right away when taking the inactive pills? Or am I just being impatient?
