Yes, your comment worked. And yes, women can ovulate earlier or later than 14 days. The 14 days is really just an average based on a 28-day cycle. That is why they say there really is no "safe time" to have unprotected sex if you are not wanting to get pregnant, because a woman's cycle can change unexpectedly depending on many factors such as diet, exercise, illness, hormones, etc. Hope that makes sense. Check out the EmpowHER menstrual cycle page for more information about what's considered "normal."

i started a new pack/strip of my pills last saturday and had sex on the monday only relying on using the pill for contraception. then on the following thursday and friday i forgot to take my pills. could this mean i could be pregnant?

Sperm can live up to about 5 days in your reproductive tract. I suggest you use a backup method of contraception until you actually take the pill properly for at least a week.

Any time you have unprotected sex you risk pregnancy. Since you missed 2 days in the first week, you are not protected. Good luck and thanks for writing.

Please help!!! I recently missed 2 pills in one week. I missed one pill in week 2 and one pill in week 3. The pill that I missed in week 2 I missed on Wednesday so on Thursday I didnt realize my mistake and took Wednesdays pill so finally on Friday I realized what I did and doubled up on Friday. Then again in week 3 I missed Wednesdays pill and doubled up on Thursday. I am just finishing my sugar pills and starting a new pack this Sunday and I am also seeing my boyfriend so I was just wondering if we don't use protection is there a chance I could get pregnant? I am on Cyclessa and I have been on it for 8 or 9 months now. This is the first time I have missed any pills. Please help! Thank you!

Hi Anonymous

Since you took the extra pills right away when you figured it out I think you should be safe. It's more of a problem if you miss several in a row and don't catch them up. Thanks for writing and good luck.
