Q:

I'm post-meno and on BHRT with issues. Can I reduce to just progesterone cream?

I've been on Biest, progesterone capsules & DHEA for about 5 years. It's not working as well as it used to, but I've moved x-country and can't find a Dr who has a clue about BHRT. My Rx runs out soon, and I need a solution. I'm waking from hot flashes all night, and getting frequent milder ones during the day. Also feeling low energy, achey, depressed & anxious. Belly fat that won't shrink. I need to change something, and need advice. Don't know if I'm a candidate for Progesterone cream, and don't know how to make transition from current Rx. Afraid to go back to the raging, tearful maniac I was before starting BHRT. Thank you!

Hi Sel, Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community. Navigating peri menopausal symptoms and finding the right treatment option can be a very challenging journey. I can't recommend Progesterone cream, but there are some supplemental lifestyle things you can add to your daily regimen that might help like following an anti-inflammatory diet, getting adequate aerobic exercise, and practicing stress reduction techniques. I know you're having a tough time finding a doctor, but I would suggest making lifestyle changes rather than try something hormonal. The risk of furthering your hormonal imbalance could create more aggravating symptoms. Good luck on finding a doctor. I hope this helps. Be well, ~Gillette July 16, 2015 - 1:57pm
