Missed birth control pills

I missed my birth control pills Saturday, Sunday and Monday, I had unprotected sex Monday night (honestly didn't realize I forgot any pills) but there was no ejaculation during the unprotected sex. I took the pills I missed on Tuesday. It is now Thursday and I have light bleeding. What is the likelihood that I'm pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Well, the light bleeding may be caused by missing three active pills.

There was a slight risk because you missed three doses, had intercourse without him using a condom, and not making up for the missed doses until Tuesday.

You could speak with your gynecologist. Or, continue to take your daily pill and wait to see if you have withdrawal bleeding during placebo week.

Would the withdrawal bleeding be similar to that of having my period?

Hi sarahvd,

Not really because your monthly period comes at or about the same time each month.

Withdrawal bleeding is triggered by taking an ECP, missing active birth control pills or during the week of inactive birth control pills.
