Q:

My period is late after taking Postinor 2

Hello,
I was on my 6th day of my cycle (just finishing my period). The condom split so I took the first tablet of postinor2 2 hours later (1am). We then had unprotected sex 6 hours later (7am). I took the 2nd postinor tablet 3 hours later(10am).
8 days later I had heavy bleeding lasting 4 days. Firstly, is this a sign that postinor worked?
Since then i have had no sign of my period.
In the last 2 weeks (aboit 22nd day of cycle) I have had the flu and been unwell. This has all made me quite anxious.
My period cycle is quite irregular.
Thanks for your help in advance

Hi,

Emergency contraception can cause irregularity in the cycle for a time (or two.) But not usually beyond that. If pregnancy is not a concern this time, your period should regulate in due time. Contact your doctor if you are still concerned.

Hi,

If the condom was used correctly, and it seems it was, there was no reason to take emergency contraception. This medication can cause irregularity (a late or early period) so that's is likely what has happened.

Hi,

You should be using protection. This medicine can cause period irregularity and hormonal imbalance if taken often. It's not supposed to be used as a regular form of birth control. If she does not get her period she should test for pregnancy.

Hi,

There is nothing to do but wait until your period arrives. ECP can cause irregularity in your cycle. HPTs are accurate 14-21 days after sex, so you can always test again if you think you tested too early. Using protection is safer and far less stressful. So, think about that in the future.

Hi,

That is not typical. I would call your doctor about this.
