Regarding plan b one step

My last normal menstral cycle was on October 24th. I had intercourse on the 7th of November where the condom broke. I took plan b 9 hours after. My next period was due November 22nd. I bled the 15th-17th with a steady sometimes heavy flow and then had some spotting a couple days after. Should I consider that my period? I have also took a hpt on the 5th of December which was negative. And one at my doctors which was also negative. Would a pregnancy test be accurate by now since it has been 29 days after the incident?

Hi Jessica! Yay! I am so glad you got your period!! I bet you never want to go through that again-it is so stressful!

Just be aware that your next period might be off as well- it just takes time for the hormones to work their way out of your system, unfortunately.

Since you got your period and blood test is neg. then you don't have to worry about if your next period is irregular.

Happy New Year!!

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for keeping me updated. Goodness, I am really surprised that you haven't gotten your period and these tests keep coming back not pregnant. It will be interesting to see what comes back in the blood work. It can just be something hormonal. I know you are worried. Try to enjoy the holidays and not stress out- if you were pregnant the test at the doctor's office would have been pretty accurate at this point! I bet it's just hormones. Try to relax-I know easier said than done :-(

Merry Christmas!

Hi Kristin,

So the blood test came back negative. I got my period yesterday! Im sure my stress and being worried caused it to be delayed. It makes sense though because my last normal period before plan b was on the 24th. I was just about a week late. I am definitely never going through something like that ever again. I didn't start bc yet because the last time I went to the doctor my blood pressure was a little high, I'm thinking it was nerves because it's usually pretty normal. I guess I will see what next months period is like. Will it affect my next cycle too? I really hope not! Well thank you for all your help I really appriciate it! Hope you have a great holiday!

Hi Kristin,

Well I still haven't got my period and I went to the doctor today did another urine test and that was negative. She took blood just to make sure but she said if I was pregnant it would have definitely shown up by now. She thinks I should get my period soon and if I don't by January then to do an ultrasound. I should have the results back Monday so hopefully that will put my mind at ease and I can stop worrying.

Hi Kristen,

Well I took a pregnancy test this morning ( first Response) and it is negative. I know it is probably going to be late, since I normally have 28-30 day cycles. As of today it has been 39 days since I had sex. I'm feeling what I usually feel before my period like cramps, back pain and headaches but I also think my nerves still have a lot to do with how I feel. I would think by now it would be detected in my urine, well I'm hoping it would. I guess if I don't get it by the end of this week I will go back to my doctor just to make sure everything is ok. I will keep you posted.

Thanks!
Jessica

Hi Anon25,

I think you are really overanalyzing the situation. You will probably get your period very soon as your breasts will usually get fuller right before your period. Try to stop worrying and don't believe everything you read online! Your doctor's opinion should reassure you!

Best,

Kristin

Thank you! I appreciate your reply. I'm glad there is someone I can talk to about this considering I don't want to involve my family or friends.

Hi Anonymous25,

I know it can be very stressful and worrisome!! Yes, you did get your period and pretty certain you aren't pregnant.

Try to relax before the 15th (adding stress will only delay it more). If it doesn't come around the 15th, take a home pregnancy test just to ease your mind. But, don't freak out if it doesn't come exactly on the 15th. The hormones really mess with your cycle. Getting back on the pill will help get it regulated and prevent any future unwanted pregnancies.

It may take a few different brands of pills to find one that reacts well to your body. But in the end, it is worth finding the right one so that you don't have to take emergency contraception again.

Best of Luck! Keep me posted!
