severe foot pain on the bottom of my feet...hurts to stand on them and has lasted for 4 weeks now.

I awoke one morning and when I got out of bed, it hurt like crazy to stand on my feet. The pain continued very persistently for 3+ weeks... extremely tender in the morning, gradually getting better during the day, and increasing again in evenings. It felt like my foot had collapsed in the middle where the arch is, except I still had an arch there. On the inside of my feet there was slight swelling and slight discoloration . It has now been close to 5 weeks and the pain is getting to be less and less, but not gone completely yet. Accompanying this I also experienced pain and problems in my knees, and in a very unsystematic way, also had problems bending my knees. This would shift though....one day it was one leg and the next the the other leg, then it would subside and it would return..... It was so severe at one point, that just 2 weeks ago, I could barely go up and down stairs. The knee situation seems to have improved now and have not experienced that in the past 6 days now. Any ideas?
Laura

Anon, If you have not done so yet you need to tell your parents about this and have them take you to a doctor so you can get a proper diagnosis and care plan. Foot problems are typically seen by a podiatrist, which is a doctor who specializes in foot care. Good luck to you. Pat

I have exactly the same symptoms and in addition I get a sharp burning pain on the outside of my thigh. Mine started after getting a flue shot. I am on sure if this is a coindidence. Mine started about 2.5 weeks ago. Please let me know what you find out. I am planning on going to a doctor this week.

I have had bilateral foot pain for nearly 8 months now. I just woke up with pain in my right foot and could barely walk. It initially got better during the day, but now, painful almost continually. I now have pain in my left foot. I wake up in the night with pain and can barely walk. There was no trauma, no swelling, redness, bulges, nothing. I am not diabetic. Good circulation. I have tried heel supports, change in shoes. The only thing that helps is Motrin, which completely relieves the pain (temporarily). The cause? I'd love to know.

I also woke up with severe foot pain - but in both feet. Entire feet, tops, bottoms, sides, all over. In my case it's caused by Fibromyalgia. I have pain most every where in my body, but the foot pain came on suddenly overnight. I have great difficulty walking now due to the pain of supporting weight. It even hurts when I'm not standing or walking. There is pain and at times a burning sensation in the calves and feet. I get almost no relief and it has been over 17 months now, without a break! I've done PT, warm water excercizes, medications, acupuncture, tai chi, cushy shoes, inserts, foot massage. Nothing helps and I don't know how much longer I can stand it. Narcotics don't help either, tried that too. Does anyone know about some special shoes, socks, etc that can benefit such awful pain so I can at least function a little easier?

A really common cause of this type of pain is plantar fasciitis. The pain with this is known for being worse when you first get on your feet, and easing up a bit as you stay on them. We have an explanation of plantar fasciitis: ttp://www.empowher.com/condition/plantar-fasciitis/definition.

There are exercises you can do to help lessen the pain, but for a diagnosis you should see a health care provider, typically an orthopaedic surgeon or podiatrist. Sometimes they will treat this with not only the stretching exercises but nighttime splinting as well.

Thank you for writing and good luck to you.

I have a similar pain in the bottom of my right foot. The pain is localized to an area of the size of a quarter and it is lodged at the junction of my heal and my arch, on the inside of the foot. Also there appears some discoloration of the skin, such as a bruise, above the pained area, at the ankle. The pain is sever in the morning and often during the day, and it throbs like crazy even when I have the foot lifted when sitting during the day or night. When I wear house shoes with nubs for a cushion the pain is not as magnified. The discomfort is reduced when I take Advil, but it does not go away.
Any advice will be so appreciated.

The same problem with me. Answer is nerve inflammation .very low back. It was right foot, now it's left one. Need to go to chiropractor. Podiatrist checked, could not do nothing.

Gerraf2j54 - You need to see a medical professional about this to determine what it is and treat it. There could be several causes, but you need an expert to make the determination. Good luck to you. Pat
