What happens if I miss one week of birth control pills? How long will it take for my body to adjust to the pill again?

Hello everyone,

I've been on Yasmin for about two years now, always took the pill on time. My question is this, I finished my period on Friday July 17th, on Sunday July 19th I was suppose to start a new pack of my active pill, however I was on vacation last week, and forgot my pills at home, and missed a whole week of my first week of active pills. When I got back, I started my first week of the pack on Sunday the 25th. I wanted to find out, will I be getting my period this coming up month, once I start taking the sugar pill? Will missing one week, and starting the new pack a week later mess up my body, and how long will it take for my body to adjust to the pill again? I'm not worried about getting pregnant, for I've been single for about two months, and not sexually active, I'm more worried about how long will it take for my body to get back on schedule with my periods and all. Thanks in advance for any inofmation you can share with me.

Hi,
So I completely messed up a month of the
Regular birth control pill and I was taking it on and off.
For the days I forgot I just discarded the pill and
took the next one as usual and then when that
pack was empty I started the new one as usual.
I'm more concerned if this will prevent me from
getting pregnant in the future.
Please help with answers!

Hello I started the pill about a week ago and I started it the Sunday after my period. Is that okay or should I start over completely?
Thank you
Ali

Hey there,
Ive been on birth control for about 5 months now and about a month ago i lost my pack right in the middle of the month. I got my period a couple days later and had sex on the last day of my period. I only get my packs for a month so i didnt take anymore pills until about a week ago, and im kind of nervous i might be pregnant, is that possible or am i psyching myself out? Im always feeling nauseas, which is an extreme rarity for me, and im cramping a lot. Can you help? Im really worried:/
Thank you so much.

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. I will do my best to help you and hopefully relieve your concern.

Missing active hormone pills triggered your body to start menses.

Having sex on the last day of your period should not have put you at risk for pregnancy. It was too early in your menstrual cycle for ovulation.

Did you have sex any other time before you started your new pack?

Try to relax. Feeling nauseous and having abdominal cramping could be stress induced.

Regards,
Maryann

Hello,
I am 18yrs old and have been on the pill for around 3 years. Towards the end of August, my pills were delivered late and I missed the first week of pills. As soon as I got my pills I started taking them that day and doubling up on the missed pulled until I was catches you. I have no missed a single pills once and got my period like normal towards the end. I started the next pack like normal and did not miss a pill and had sex one time during the second week of the pack. Still never missed a pill or anything. I am on the third week of pills and supposed to get my period Tuesday, but today I got either heavy spotting or a start of my period. I'm not sure if this is just my system trying to get back to being regular after that missed week, or if I should be worried?

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. Your body may be adjusting to the change caused by missing one week of pills and then doubling up to make up for it.

Wait and see what happens with this period. Any concerns can and should be reported to your physician.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for your question.

There is a highly increased chance of pregnancy if you go without hormones for seven or more days in a row. This could happen if you don’t start a new pack on time and/or forget to take the last one or two pills in the pack.

Did you have sex during the week you missed taking your birth control pills? If so, there is a chance you might be pregnant.

If your period doesn't start by the time you finish taking the inactive pills, call your gynecologist. You might want to take a home pregnancy test first.

Regards,
Maryann
