Hi,

Are you the same person who asked the original question? If so, the curable part is: yes, infections are curable with antibiotics, typically taken from 2 days to 10 days; sometimes longer doses are required.

Most women experience some kind of problem in their genital region, whether it be a urinary tract infection, a yeast infection or other infection of the vulva or vagina. It is nothing to worry about...but it is something to that needs to be taken care of!

A sign of an infection is discharge that is yellow, painful, irritating, itchy and burning. The remedy for infections is typically antibiotics, which need to be prescribed by your doctor. Anytime you have pain bad enough that you can not walk, this is the time to make an appointment.

Do you have a gynecologist that you already see? How old are you?

Is your vagina red, itchy and burning, or your vulva? The vulva is the outside part of the female genitalia, whereas the vagina is internal.

Common symptoms of vaginal infection include:

* Increase or change in the vaginal discharge, including gray, green, or yellow discharge.
* Vaginal redness, swelling, itching, or pain.
* Vaginal odor.
* Burning with urination.
* Pain or bleeding with sex.

Please make an appointment with your doctor. If you do not have one, and are not sure where to find one, tell us what city/state you live in, and we can see if anyone has some recommendations for you. You can ask a female friend or relative for recommendations, too.

Please let us know what you find out, and if you have any more questions about how to prepare for your doctor's visit (if this is your first time).

Anon, welcome to Empowher, and thank you for your question.

I know it's very worrisome to you, but it sounds as though you have been dealing with a case of vaginitis. It is quite common and there are several kinds, and not necessarily linked to any sexual activity. It can be a yeast infection, something linked to your menstrual cycle, or even a reaction to certain soaps, douches or vaginal cleansers.

You mention that you are a virgin; have you had sexual contact that was not intercourse? What sort of marks did the rash leave?

Have you recently been on a new medication, or maybe an antibiotic?

Did you have any sort of discharge (other than your regular period) when you were having symptoms? Did it hurt to urinate?

Here's a page that talks about various kinds of vaginitis, and when you need to see a doctor:

Please give us a little more information and let us know if we can help further.
