Sexual Health Quiz: Test Your Knowledge on this "Dry" Subject!
1. How would you describe/define the following terms?
- Dry Humping
- Dry Sex
- Dry Intercourse
2. What specific behaviors am I engaging in if I do any of the following?
- Dry Humping
- Dry Sex
- Dry Intercourse
3. Can you "get" pregnant from any of the following sexual activities?
- Dry Humping
- Dry Sex
- Dry Intercourse
4. Can you spread or contract an STI/STD from any of the following sexual behaviors? (STI/STD = sexually transmitted infections or diseases)
- Dry Humping
- Dry Sex
- Dry Intercourse
ANSWERS:
1. Dry= No Bodily Fluid Contact
The word "dry" means that there is no bodily fluid exchange or contact, including fluids or lubrication from the penis, vagina, anus or mouth. These specifically can include pre-ejaculatory fluid ("pre-cum"), ejaculatory fluid or "ejaculation" or "cum", vaginal lubrication or vaginal secretions.
"Dry humping" and "dry sex" can be summed up by using the term: "outercourse".
There is actually no such thing as "dry intercourse", as penetration can never be considered a "dry" activity as there is natural lubrication from your body that is considered a "bodily fluid".
2. Outercourse can include:
- massaging, touching
- masturbation
- body rubbing, humping or "going through motions" of sex while fully clothed (genitals are fully covered)...most commonly called "dry humping"
Outercourse can not include:
- penetration of penis into vagina, anus or mouth
- body rubbing while clothed, but some "slippage" of clothing (underwear, specifically)
- ejaculation near vagina, even while covered, with chance of semen spilling over clothing
3. No, Outercourse would not lead to pregnancy
As explained above, outercourse does not involve the contact or exchange of any bodily fluids, and therefore, would not create a risk for pregnancy
4. Yes, Outercourse may still carry the risk of spreading or contracting an STI/STD
The word "dry" is important when talking about pregnancy and STIs/STDs, as Outercourse is a Good Safer Sex Option, but is not 100% "safe".
Safer Sex is any sexual behavior that reduces your risk for infection or pregnancy. Although most STDs/STIs are spread through exchange of bodily fluids, some are transmitted from skin-to-skin contact (meaning: you don't have to have intercourse/penetration to become infected with an STD/STI). The skin-to-skin contact through outercourse can be a risk for STD/STI.
Lastly,
What are the Benefits of Outercourse (for two consenting adults?)
- Pleasurable form of sexual expression and intimacy
- Type of "safer sex" without need for contraception (for pregnancy prevention)
- Lower risk for contracting or spreading STIs or STDs (sexually transmitted infections or diseases)
- No risk for pregnancy
- It can be a sexual behavior that is pleasurable, exciting and not stress-inducing (from the point of view of women, wondering if they are pregnant)

April 3, 2016 - 2:52amSemen of my boyfriend fall on my stomach and thighs but didn't fall around or near vagina. Then instantly I and he both cleaned with water. Then after 3-4 minutes he dry rubbed his penis on my vagina directly, we were not wearing undergarments. I also gave him blowjob before semen came out. Can I get pregnant?

Hi Anonymous,
There might have been a very slight risk for pregnancy if your boyfriend inserted his penis into your vagina. Sperm are so tiny that they can only be seen under a microscope.
hopefully, he removed all semen when he washed and did not have any pre ejaculate fluid or ejaculation of semen while in you.

He didn't inserted his penis he just dry rubbed his penis. It was all dry. He washed his semen. Now also is there any chance to get pregnant?

Hi Anonymous,
If he didn't insert and all semen was removed, there should have been no chance of getting pregnant.

April 14, 2016 - 7:37amMe again
Sorry for the inconvenience
But I'm really very scared
Can you please help me again?
I'm Virgin. My boyfriend told me that when we did this he was masturbutating from before 3,4 days. And it wasn't semen it was the prejaculation liquid. It didn't fall around my vagina. He then washed the liquid and cleaned it and then after few minutes he dry rubbed his penis over my vagina. It was all dry. He didn't inserted it he just dry rubbed the penis. Can this make me pregnant? I'm really very scared. Also my stomach is paining from 5,6 days. Does this have any connection with the pregnancy? Please tell me in detail!!

Hi Anonymous,
There was no chance you could have become pregnant.
Your vagina is inside of your body.
To become pregnant, you must be ovulating. Ovulation is when one of your ovaries releases an egg.
This happens in the middle of your menstrual cycle, about two weeks after your last period. Your fertile days are five days before and on the day of ovulation.
Next, he has to insert his penis into your vagina and release or ejaculate semen, which contains sperm.
Pre ejaculate fluid might contain sperm if he has had a prior but recent ejaculation. When he urinates, any sperm is flushed out.
Anonymous, in your case, no sperm would still remain from an ejaculation three or four days ago. He rubbed your vulva or outer genitalia or private parts with a dry penis.
I would guess the stomach pains are because you are so scared. Please relax. There was no risk for pregnancy.

Hi, I was hooking up with this guy that I have known for a while, we didn't have a condom so we decided on not having sex but we did start dry humping, at a certain point I was on his knee and I think that my underwear may have moved over. The next day my vagina near the clitoris was extremely sore and now two weeks after its starting to itch only near my clitoris, I also shaved pretty closely during that same week. Could I have contracted a STI or STD?

Hello,
March 13, 2016 - 8:36pmMy boyfriend was wearing his boxers, shorts, and some joggers. I had on my underwear and leggings. He was rubbing his penise against my vagina hard , I got wet and I realized he had a wet spot on his joggers. Can I get pregnant?

Most likely not. Fertilization occurs when sperm (present in semen, the ejaculatory fluid of males) joins with an egg cell. It is likely that the semen did not come in contact even with your vulva, and for pregnancy to happen, he would have had to ejaculate "inside" of you. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you're still concerned, perhaps taking a pregnancy test within a week or so could ease your mind. Hope this helped! :)

Hello Anonymous,
No. There was no way you could have gotten pregnant.
The lower parts of your bodies were covered.
Your vagina is inside of your body, so he could not have rubbed his penis, certainly wearing boxers and shorts, against your vagina.
Your wetness as vaginal lubrication caused by sexual arousal. His wet spot was either pre ejaculate fluid or semen.
