I started using SottoPelle this past summer and cannot begin to describe the relief it has brought me after years and years of hormone related problems (I am 49). I, and my husband, LOVE it!!

Anon,
This is wonderful to hear. Did it take you long to get your protocol adjusted to be best for you? Can you talk a bit in more detail about the changes you've seen and felt? Have you had any negative side effects?

Anyone who can't tolerate Sottopelle, check into Peruvian maca...have used both.

Just read comments from when I posted in March. I am 62 and had my last menstrual cycle at 55. I have now been using SottoPelle for almost 2 years. I am fortunate that I live in Scottsdale so go to Dr. Tutera's offices. I was very unbalanced so changes were all over the board and varied a lot with each implant. Those of you just starting give yourself some time. I have also, with guidance from my SP naturopathic doctor, been applying adrenal healing principles to my lifestyle. He had me read "Adrenal Fatigue 21st Century Stress Syndrome" by James L Wilson. I have had to just let go of immediate results and be patient. Not saying that has been easy. It is taking time but it is working. When I am using the SP implants I do feel better. I have softer skin but more hair. Yes now I have to wax not only eyebrows but lip, chin and sometimes sides of my face. Not a big deal. Just more wax. I would be getting more facial hair if I was not using SB. It is a part of life. Breasts are fuller. No complaints about that. Even though I am not in a permanent relationship I like the "higher gear" sexually as it just feels good. If I do have sex it is great for me and my partner. I do think about sex more than I did before. I guess a little insight into a man's mind. I choose to have a bleed-off every month so use only 10 of 150 mg promethium each month my Dr. orders from a compounding pharmacy. At age 58 my body put on weight due to an uninterrupted period of high stress. This happened despite my years of disciplined exercise and diet. It has taken a different mindset to be patient but working with my adrenals has allowed that to start to change and the weight is slowly coming off without the previous level of effort. Interesting that in cultures where women do not deal with the stresses we have they do not get all these supposedly "normal" symptoms as they age. SP has helped with headaches but I still get them occasionally on the left temple but am finding a direct correlation with the headaches and emotional stress. The best solution I find is to get myself out of the stressful situation and into a more positive one that supports me. My headache will go away.
November 12, 2009 - 10:51amI have never had problems with sleeping but my sister, who does not use SP, does and so I can empathize. I hope those who do will find solutions.
Have enjoyed reading your experiences. Since we are all unique, do not all think the same and have taken care of our bodies differently over the years it makes sense that we will have varied reactions to a protocol. Even one that is customized.

Jlo,
Thanks so much for your post. It's very interesting to hear from women who have been on the SP therapy for a longer period of time. I really appreciate all the detail you went into about skin, hair, libido, weight and side effects. Thank you for writing!

"Annonymous from the Midwest here again - haven't posted since soon after 2nd pellet injections & I'm here to say I'll NEVER do the pellets again! I began bleeding in September after missing one prometrium pill. Nothing made it stop & after a month of going through 4-6 tampons per day & daily cramping I had a D&C. Then I bled for a week from that with cramps, then for one whole week I was fine. Then I accidently missed a pill again & the bleeding/cramps began. I doubled up on the prometrium to no avail so cut back to the normal dosage about 3 days ago. Suddenly today I'm bleeding worse - have daily cramps. Called the doc & they just don't have an answer. They said it should stop when the hormones are finally out of my system...another 2 months! I'm miserable. They did halve my testosterone at my 2nd insertion but unfortunately testosterone is like a psychedlic drug for me. My brain has been focused on sex, sex, sex & I spend money on clothes, cds, etc to try to compensate for the sex drive. It led me to seek out a relationship (was just fine being alone before the pellets) & lucky me, I found a man near my age (I'm 59) who of course is impotent & nothing is helping him. I just want this nightmare to end. This will be 8 months of my fading life span that I'll never get back. I think this stuff works better for younger women who are in perimenopause

Anon,
What a distressing and discouraging experience this has been for you. I feel so much empathy for you -- it certainly seems that this is not the solution for you. Had you tried other forms of HRT before this?
When you spoke to your doctors after this most recent episode began, their opinion was that you would just have to wait it out for two months?

Previously, I'd tried the bioidentical estrogen/progesterone compounded creams & was pleased that they helped me sleep & aleviated leg cramps/twitches. However, my estrogen levels were still so low that they didn't register on bloodwork & I stil had dry, flakey alligator skin & hair like straw. I have too many concerns regarding the pill form synthetics to try them. My doc has suggested a hysterectomy which I think is a drastic move just to continue hormone therapy so I think my best move is to return to the creams. My ovaries still make some testosterone. My energy levels were still good without any hormone therapies - could work 10 hrs a day then go shop, etc. I didn't get to talk with the doc this time but when I asked the nurse if the bleeding would stop once the pellets were out of my system she said yes, unless I had fibroids or other issues which. The D&C ruled out other issues. Last night I began doubling up on the progesterone again - 400 mg per day.

I had the same experience. Had one physician tell me I needed to see a psychiatrist! Needless to say, that was the last time I saw him. Had the pellets placed last week. Oh, my word, what a difference! I am loving life again!

Anon, how wonderful for you!!
Can you tell us a little bit more detail about your experience? What symptoms were you having, and for how long? Had you tried other forms of HRT?
Can you try to tell us a little more about the difference in how you feel? Many women say they just feel like "themselves" again; is this the case with you?
How did you hear about the pellets?
Would love to hear you tell more, not only now, but even a few months from now.
