Testosterone is the chief male hormone and it is essential for libido and erectile function. It also plays a crucial role in mood, energy, bone health, and body composition. As men age, testosterone levels decline. This process starts in the man's mid 30s and may indicate the beginning of Andropause (male menopause)
Low levels of testosterone have been linked with disorders such as depression, fatigue, obesity, and cognotive decline. Low levels of this hormone also increase the risk of coronary heart disease and other cardiac conditions.
There are many health benefits to restoring youthful levels of testosterone on men, including heart health, body composition, mood and memory. Not to mention enhanced sexual performance. So, it will be important to discuss the options with a medical provider to determine the course of action including bioidentical testosterone replacement therapy.
If you suspect your spouse or partner is suffering from declined testosterone levels, you may encourage him to set up an appointment with his doctor, have a blood test to check testosterone levels and identify a therapy. Optimizing testosterone levels requires a multi-pronged approach that includes proper nutrition, supplements, exercise, and hormone replacement therapy if necessary.

Thanks for sharing this Coach Virginia! Very informative. There really is a midlife crisis for most men and it has a medical name; Aging Male Syndrome or Andropause. It normally starts in our early to mid-thirties as men’s testosterone production begins to fall. Hi,
May 14, 2013 - 1:15amLow testosterone may contribute to a decrease in motivation or self-confidence. You may feel sad or depressed, or have trouble concentrating or remembering things.
High T Testosterone Booster has been formulated scientifically which is very effective in helping the enhancement of testosterone levels in men.

With age the level of testosterone reduces and it is natural process, however it can be avoided if proper exercise and health routine is followed which help to have better sex drive and libido in men. However some well known products for testosterone improvement like help to have better hormonal level and libido in men.

Virginia, it's really interesting to me that the medical community has not done much work in the area of a male menopause. I'm used to learning that whatever the condition, the research into that condition in men has historically gotten more attention than the same condition in women. Sounds like this is a bit of an exception.
Seems like hormones and their wide-ranging effects on any human body is something that's been almost ignored for too long for both sexes. I bet 50 years from now they'll look back on how hormones are treated today and think "wow, now those were the dark ages."

Patti, great question...the medical community is not clear about treating male menopause (Andropause) or linking other health conditions to this life stage in men.
I think the best option will be to start with an Internal Medicine doctor. They are trained in many body systems including those related to the production of hormones. I really doubt many Urologists know how to treat symptoms of Andropause but who knows, there might be a few out there. The other medical specialty that by definition and medical training should be familiar with HRT for men are Endocrinologists.
There is a medical society in England that focuses on Male Menopause and Dr Carruthers has led many efforts to recognize the hormone replacement therapy needs of males. But I think we have a long ways to go to recognize this life-changing event among men. http://www.andropause.org.uk/bookshop.asp
There is another medical organization that offers a list of trained physicians on Bio-identical hormone/HRT treatments for men and women and across the country www.acam.org It may be worth checking...

Virginia, this is really interesting to me.
Unlike women, though, who have ob/gyns, it seems that more men just have general practitioners for their doctors. Is there a specific kind of doctor that a man would go to in order to find one who works with male hormones (especially the bioidenticals) as well as the nutrition, supplements and exercise?
