In this edition of EmpowHER's, "HER Health Minute", Dr. Archelle Georgiou shares a few tips on how you can fit that all important exercise into your busy lifestyle.
Hi! I’m Dr. Archelle Georgiou, EmpowHER’s Chief Clinical Officer, and this is HER Health Minute.
We all know we need exercise, but how much?
The CDC says that adults should do some type of aerobic exercise for at least 150 minutes a week and muscle strengthening exercise twice a week.
How do you fit this into your busy life?? Here are some tips:
1. Spread out the exercise. If you just take two 15 minute walks a day, five days a week this will get you to 150 minutes.
2. Move naturally. Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean dedicated time on a treadmill. The walking you do in a grocery store or walking in the parking lot to get into the mall, counts towards exercise.
3. For muscle strengthening, you want to fit in two 20 minute sessions. My favorite is a fitness ball. It’s fun, cheap, and can be used to strengthen all of the major muscle groups.
The bottom line is, get moving. Take responsibility for living a healthy life.
