Melissa explains how she had been changed by lung cancer.
Melissa:
I think the cancer has probably changed me in a way that I have really had to spend a lot of quality time with myself and think about what’s important to me as far as religion goes and values and what I think about life also, you know, the quality of my friendship and my friends; the people that are there for me and those that are not.
The cancer has also, you know, brought certain people closer to me and I have gotten to spend a lot of time with people that I may not necessarily get a chance to spend time with on a day-to-day basis. And, the time that we spend here in the hospital or at home in my bed is quality time. We are talking one-on-one versus sitting in a bar or somewhere where it’s loud and noisy and you’re interacting with other people. You know, you really get a chance to talk and have a real conversation.
