Alice explains if exercise increases her bone strength.
Alice:
Currently I am trying to help protect my bones more. I have a trainer and I am doing weight-bearing exercises. We work very carefully with it because my weight limit now is not more than three pounds. However, we are doing a little bit more than three pounds, maybe doing five to ten, but she is always standing right over me with whatever I am using, and as far as if it has done any improvement yet I have another bone density test being done in December of 2009. So we will know more.
I have also been on medication that is taken once a year and again with that bone density we will see the results of both the combination of the medication and the exercise I am doing. I also do swimming because that, the buoyancy of water does not build strength in the bones, but it strengthens the muscles around the bones to protect them when I fall, that hopefully when I do fall those muscles will react enough that I might not break my bones, my legs, my hip – something like that.
