Annette, who continues to battle ovarian cancer, recalls if ovarian cancer commonly recurs.
It is all too common for a woman with ovarian cancer to get a recurrence. This is a disease that just wants to come back, and it comes back in a very aggressive way. I was shocked when my cancer was silent for 12 years. I thought it was cured and then found that I had a massive tumor in a very difficult place and that it might not be operable.
I’ve had several recurrences after that, too many even to count at this point. But what I have also found is that as shocking as it is, as frightening and painful as those recurrences are, I’ve come to grips with it. I found a place of accepting that this is part of my life, and so I don’t have that fear anymore when it recurs now, and I am currently in a recurrence. My thought is, okay, we have more work to do.
