Julie shares advice for women who are genetically at risk for ovarian and breast cancers.
Julie:
Well, it seems extreme, but they may recommend a prophylactic mastectomy or hysterectomy, and do your research, find out your family history, and take it into consideration, take it seriously. There’s a lot of schools of thought that that’s radical, and it’s mutilating women, but I am here to tell you, I am a perfect example as to why that is not the case. Doctors aren’t recklessly suggesting surgery just to do surgery. There’s risk factors behind it, and there’s data behind it, and they’re trying to prove it more and more, and I think it’s very important for anyone who does have that genetic factor to seriously consider it.
