Dr. Tariot explains if medical insurance companies will cover the cost for Alzheimer's disease medications.
Dr. Tariot:
Insurance typically covers these standard therapies. I am not an insurance expert, but I am not aware that it’s a significant problem in most cases. The new doughnut hole is an issue for some families that we’re all kind of learning how to deal with. None of these medicines is generic yet, but in a matter of weeks one of them will be, the one that’s called Galantamine and the current trade name is Razadyne. So that may make a difference in affordability and accessibility.
