41 days since my last period

I'm 27, I have 3 kids and I've always had my periods between 27-31 days apart. It's now day 41 and i've taken 2 HPT's and both neg. My husband and I always use condoms and none have broken. I don't think I'm pregnant, but can't figure out why I'm so late. My period came on Aug 27, 2010 then on Sept 29, 2010. It was 33 days which put me a couple days late, then I didn't get another one until Nov 6, 2010. It was 38 days between my periods. I started going back to school in August and I've been a little more stressed out trying to take care of my kids and attend college full-time. Could stress make my cycles change? I'm just wondering why my periods keep getting later every month??

I started today, but my sinus infection is coming back so I'm going to have to take antibiotics AGAIN. Hopefully I get better and get back on track soon before I end up with a surprise pregnancy.

Hi mommyof3,
What else are you taking (medication or supplements) currently to deal with symptoms? Do you have allergies? Have you tried neti pot, or sinus rinsing to help deal with sinus symptoms (I highly recommend it!). If you have more questions, or find out more, let us know.

Sounds like you're taking extra precaution, so I would think you would be ok. It's always a good idea to use backup birth control if you are on antibiotic for an infection. Let us know what happens. And thanks again for the updates!

Hello Anonymous,

Pregnancy could be the reason for a late period if you have had unprotected intercourse since your last period. Start by taking a home pregnancy test. Test in the morning when you first get up and urinate.

I was just concerned, I started my bc for the first time on Jan 18th. I got bronchitis and had to start a Zpack on Jan 25th. My bc pills just had enough time to become effective before I made them ineffective again. I started my placebo pills on Feb 15th and my period on Feb 17th and it lasted about a week, maybe 5 days, I don't recall. We had unprotected sex 2 days after I got off my period, I'm just hoping that my bc pills were effective when we did. I think I'm okay bc the zpack only stayed in my system for 10 days, which would've been Feb 3. I took 12 more bc pills before I started my placebo pills, so if I'm calculating right, I should be in the clear. I'm due for my period today, so hopefully all goes well. I was on bc once again during the month of Feb for a sinus infection, but used condoms during that time. The first two months of my bc, I've been on antibiotics during both of those months, I just hope everything is effective like it should be.

I called my doc's office and they said it was probably endometrium and not to be concerned unless it's accompanied by heavy bleeding. I'm just hoping that things straighten out soon. Thanks for the feedback!

You may find this a one-time thing. If it keeps happening though, you may want to get into the doctor's office. Hope talking with your doctor calmed your concern a bit.
You're very welcome! That's what we're here for. :)

Thanks for your update, mommyof3,
Keep track of those symptoms someplace so you can relay them to your doctor or other health care provider as needed. Those sharp pains would've sent me to urgent care for sure. I had similar pains in May of last year, and my doctor told me it could have been a cyst rupturing. Just goes to show you, they don't always know exactly what's going on. That's why we need websites like this to help us advocate for our own health. Keep us updated on how things go with the birth control pills. If you have more questions let us know and we'll try to pass along any info we can to help you advocate for yourself.
Good luck!

Another update...I started my bc pills on Jan 18. I just started my first period since then. I spotted on February 9, then finally started on the 10th. Then today, the 11th, I started having sharp pains again, and eventually I went to the bathroom feeling like my tampon was fixing to leak. As I sat on the toilet, a blood clot of some sort fell out of me. It was about the size of 2 quarters, maybe a little bigger and I felt of it and it was rubbery feeling. It was red and had white/grey areas mixed in it. I've never done anything like that before, so I didn't know if it had something to do with me starting the bc pill or what?? After I passed the "tissue" my pains went away also.
