Hi, I'm 48, had a 35 day regular period and gradually over the last 8 years they have come closer to 21 days regular, for the last 2 years, with the odd one at 14 days.
They also went from a 5 to 7 day flow to 1 heavier day and 3 light. I have been lucky with not having many period symptoms during my life, a little breast tenderness, mild stomach ache and in my early 30's i developed a few thicker hairs on my chin.
In the past 2 years I did notice an increase in mood change 3 days before my period of being a little irritable and tearful!! which is not me! I cannot say I have had particular hot flushes, as most people describe. but a feeling of claminess all over lasting a few minutes. I am not a person that sweats much but occasionally I notice underarm wetness even in cold climates. I have also had a strange sensation of feeling that something is crawling over my skin!! which comes and goes.

I have over the past 3 years been in a relationship and sex plays a big part, there are not many days that we have not had sex, my desire has not ceased, in fact, it has increased during this period! and although I know I should use protection, we have not. I ceased taking the pill 24 years ago and do not use any other form of birth control. During this time I have not become pregnant. I was told I was very fertile in my 20's to 30's having got caught twice whilst taking the contraceptive pill with no reason as to why it failed. After that my ex had a vasectomy and I stopped taking the pill.
To present day I now have not had a period for 11 weeks and I do not have any symptoms to suggest it is due nor any symptoms, from past experience, that I could be pregnant. I have felt clammy at night on occasions and have noticed that the few thicker hairs on my chin seem to have grown back rapidly several times. As there are not too many I pluck. I have had no mood changes.
I have read many sites and asked several doctors these questions but because my symptoms appear to be slight I am told I probably just have hormone imbalance! One male doctor suggested I was too young and should take the pill to regulate my periods!
Your opinion, view or advice would be much appreciated...

You a very definitely in the peri-menopause stage in life and all sorts of strange things will now take place. Your hormones are all over the place. Please take a look at my website. http://www.progesterone-info.com/peri-menopause.html

You are almost at stage of menopause so the symptoms you experiencing is normal. If it 's anything that bothers you a lot it's a good idea to see a GYN. They probably do blood test for hormones and see how you doing.

Hi Ali63,

Thank you for posting! Your symptoms: irregular period, itchy crawly skin, mood change, hairs on you chin-- all seem to point to menopause or perimenopause. I'm surprised that one of your doctors suggested you were too young, Some women begin experiencing perimenopausal symptoms in their mid to late thirties.
