I'm a 46 yr. old female, who has not had the flu vaccine in about 10 years. For some reason i asked my physician at VA for a flu shot this year, well as i sat in the emergency room about two and a half weeks later with blisters all along my thigh, the nurse asked me if I "have ever had shingles before?" The first thing that entered my mind was that flu shot I had taken not even three weeks before! I was so angry with myself for giving in when i had been doing so well before without it! do not get the shot, just do things to build your immune system like vitamin C and just eating right.

I believe that if so many people are saying they had an episode of shingles after getting the flu shot, then the flu shot must have something to do with it. I think they should research a bit more and maybe they will discover that it does cause shingles. I got the shingles the day after my flu shot. There must be a connection. I told my doctor about this and he said it could not be from the flu shot, but of course, he gave me the flu shot. After reading all these comments, I am really sure the flu shot caused my shingles.

So, I got a flu shot 2 weeks ago and 1-2 days later got a herpes cold sore. Then I got another and another even while using acyclovir. I haven't had one in years prior to this.

Is it possible that the H1N1 addition is causing this shingles/herpes problem? I wonder if there is a spike in cases. My husband got the shingles a few days after getting his flu shot last year and he still has discomfort. I am thinking I may want to get a shingles shot even though I am not at the right age yet.

This just happened to me-this week! I couldn't figure out how this happened and I remembered that I got my first ever flu shot early in the week. I am 42, so I was a little baffled as to why I would be getting shingles. The nurse practitioner chalked it up to stress, but I think its the flu shot.

I recently had a flu shot and about 3weeks later, I got a cold sore. As I recall the same thing happened last year. So am wondering if there is a connection?

Just had the flu shot (was required by my employer) in Wisconsin 4 days ago and started getting itching and pain in several areas on the Lt flank from the waist to my Lt knee about 2 days later. It is getting progressively worse as nos now it is developing in more areas. You can't convince me that this case of shingles was not caused by the flu shot.

I received the flu shot on October 14, 2011 from the local Walgreens.
On October 18 (4 days later), I had the shingles from the injection site down my left arm into my hand. I'm 54 yrs old and very healthy and active. I've had pain from the back of my neck on the left side down to my hand on that side. I'm taking 3 medicines to rid myself of the shingles right now: Presdnisone, Valacyclvir (blue pills) and Hydrocodone for pain. I'm still itching to this day (October 27) and doubt I'll ever take another flu shot ever again. My doctor said they aren't related but that is not what I'm finding at all online.
