I take Spironolactone for cystic acne and it seems that about 20 min after taking it I get jaw pain and have an overall sick feeling. Is it possible that the Spironolactone is causing it? And would it help to make sure I have a completely full stomach or take it on an empty stomach?

Hello Catherine Medina
Thank you for writing!
Spironolactone is a heart medication that, used in a different and smaller dose, is also used for acne.
Jaw pain is not listed as a side effect but listings of side effects depend on patient reporting so please report this to your doctor. If you are noticing this jaw pain every time (or most times after) you take the medication, then it is certainly possible that the Spironolactone is the cause. Since this is not a common complaint, again, it's important to report it to your doctor.
June 19, 2019 - 2:40pmThe nausea you are experiencing is, unfortunately, a side effect. Because many medications can cause nausea, it's recommended that they be taken with food. If you are not already doing so, try it to see if you feel better.
I hope this helps-
Best,
Susan
