LCHF Low Carb High Fat diet (or Keto Diet) helps me for my AN on the neck and other parts of my body. I had AN since child and never knew it was because insulin resistant. Until I'm diagnose with Type 2 Diabetes (no medication, just go on Keto and manage to see lowering blood glucose, expect to see lowering A1C test in November, we'll see). I went on Keto and lost 36 lbs in two months, and then I realized my dark skin on my neck and inside my elbow is lighter and almost gone, still some at back of my neck and armpit. My psoriasis /Eczema clear up a lot, still some on my scalp but much better now. I guess I'm just not the type who could splurge on eating carbs and sugar and still be thin and healthy...if you are like me, please I sincerely encourage you to check out Keto Diet and think about going into it. It is restrictive but only on the carbs side...it is not hard for me personally as I don't really enjoy sweets anyway (luckily), but I missed bread so I made my own version of low carb bread, taste almost the same. I'm not saying this will help anyone but just want to share this information from personal experience and hope to help someone in need. Good luck!

Hi ,
I think i have AN too! i have darkened skin round the joints. I also recently got informed that i have high insulin. Could this be AN and how can i change it. I hate myself because of this.

Do not hate yourself for this. AN is highly linked with a genetic predisposition. Work hard on eating right and working out; and most of all embrace your body no matter how you look.

Hi Anonymous,
I am sorry to hear about your discoloration. I researched some information for you and according to the Mayo Clinic and although there is no cure, there are some things that you can do to help with the discoloration.
Losing excess pounds if you're overweight
Making dietary changes, such as cutting back on starches and sugars
If you're concerned about the appearance of your skin, your doctor may recommend these treatments:
Prescription creams or lotions to lighten the affected areas, such as those containing modified vitamin A products (Retin-A, others)
Oral medications, such as isotretinoin (Accutane, Sotret)
Fish oil supplements
Dermabrasion or laser therapy, which may help reduce the thickness of certain affected areas
Thick lesions can have a bad odor. Using antibacterial soaps or a topical antibiotic may help.

I hope this helps. Please keep us updated.

I have the same thing Lava Soap or Fast Orange Soap can cure AN well at least the discoloration. My neck was super dark and so was around my mouth. The soap totally cleared up my skin. I even use it on my 13 &11 yrs old kids. I've been to several dermatologist, they did not cure my AN, I found out about this soap on my AN cause your skin to absord grease and oil with causes the skin discoloration the soap rids your skin of the dirt, grease & oil build up! I love this stuff and its cheap you can get it from Wal-Mart. My email is [email protected]

No soap can get rid of acanthosis nigricans. retinoid pills can help (prescription) or just exercising and dieting. it is not dirt. it is excess melanin in your skin. the only 'cure' for it is treating the primary factor causing it. 9 times out of 10 its your weight, but can also be caused by medication or other factors.
