Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

Every woman will respond to an emergency contraceptive pill differently.

Was the discharge spotting or an actual flow? When is her next period due to start?

Since you are both concerned, your girlfriend should speak with her gynecologist.

Otherwise wait for her next period to start. If she is late by at least one week or misses it , then she can take a home pregnancy test.

Maryann

Hi. My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex last October 17. She took nordette as an ECP the day after the deed and she experienced a very light flow, brown copper colored bleeding 6 days after the last intake of pill. From what we have read, this is a withdrawal bleeding? Does this mean that she is pregnant or did the pill work? We are so worried. Thank you for answering.

Hello Anonymous,

The bleeding means Nordette was effective, and she didn 't become pregnant.

Hi. I had 4 days of withdrawal bleeding after taking an ECP. If I stick to my normal menstrual cycle, I am supposed to expect my period next week. Does this mean I'll still get my period next week even after the massive withdrawal bleeding i had? Please respond. Thank you so much

Hello Anonymous,

Your period might be delayed as a side effect of taking the ECP. The flow might be lighter or heavier than normal.

Hi,
Would like to know how long does ECP mess up your cycle? And also can heavy withdrawal bleeding serve as your period for the month? It really is heavy with thick blood clots. Thank you

Hi, I had sex the day after my last mestrual period Sept 29). I took Nordette as an ECP on Sept 30 and bled after 5 days (October 5). My cycle usually starts on the 25th, but given that I had a withdrawal bleeding, do I expect it to be delayed and have my cycle restart on the day of my withdrawal bleeding? I'm so scareeeed! Hope you can help.

Hello Anonymous,

No need to be scared. The bleeding was caused by taking Nordette.

Taking the pill so soon after your period ended may have upset the normal hormonal balance that regulates your menstrual cycle. This will probably cause a delay in your period for October. Any further concerns, such as no period at all, should be discussed with your gynecologist.

Hi. I'd just like to get insight on our particular situation.

LMP started Sept 30 ended Oct 3.
Deed occurred Oct 9.
*Condom was used and no ejaculation occured inside but there was a hole in the condom upon water test after*
Nordette was taken as ECP Oct 11 (50 hours after deed)
Cycle tracker forecasted ovulation at around Oct 15 (32 day cycle)
Brown discharge started Oct 18 (approximately 7 days after Nordette) and is still ongoing now (Oct 20)
*Yesterday there was red clot on the pad but this bleeding is very light but not light enough to be spotting. But it's so light it can't fill a pad on one day.*

I think what's happening now is very light withdrawal bleed. Appetite has increased but I think the increased appetite is associated with the bleeding and not with possible pregnancy because it's too early to have increased appetite due to pregnancy.

I'd just like insight regarding this and I'm trying to be as rational as I can because all my evidence points to almost being impossible to have a pregnancy.

Thanks
