Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi! I took Nordette last April 8. I just got my bleeding. Should I still test for pregnancy or am I safe?

Hello,
I had unprotected sex for the first time on last week (Thursday) and took ec pills one dose within two hours. After two days on sunday I had some light bleeding lasted for hours. Is it withdrawal bleeding?

Hello Anonymous,

Yes, this was bleeding caused by taking the emergency contraceptive pill and proof that it worked.

Hello Anonymous,

I cannot predict when you will get your next period, but it should not be more than five days earlier or later than expected.

Hello! My menses are irregular. I had protected sex with my boyfriend last April 7, but I took Nordette because when he pulled out the condom was only until the head of the glans penis. It has been 6 days and I still don't experience any bleeding. I have frequent mood swings and on off cramps. Am I safe?

Hello Anonymous,

It is too early to tell. If you have not had any bleeding within three weeks of taking Nordette, then test for pregnancy.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Withdrawal bleeding during the week a woman takes inactive birth control pills can last up to seven days.

Bleeding after taking an emergency contraceptive should not last more than seven days.
