Early pregnancy or ovarian cyst??

What does it mean if your ovaries hurt?

I stopped taking bcp three months ago and for the past 4-5 weeks have been having the following symptoms: breast enlargement/fullness, breast/nipple tenderness, increased discharge, flushed face, increased appetite, light occasional menstrual-like cramping (no bleeding), one-sided (right) occasional sharp twinges/pain & dull ache, bloating, slight weight gain.
I have taken two home-preg test, both with neg results. Approx six weeks ago, prior to all of these symptoms, I had one isolated instance of pinkish discharge (which may have been due to ovulation?). I am currently waiting it out for a few weeks until I go for a blood test at dr office. In the meantime, not knowing is driving me crazy!

Anon,

That's quite late, you're right. Without painful sex and no history of cysts, I honestly would tell you to go ahead to the doctor and get a blood test and get checked out. And here's why. Even if you had a cyst, I can't see it causing some of the symptoms you are having, such as a flushed face or increased appetite.

Many times, women have ovarian cysts without knowing it, because they can be without symptoms. But according to the Mayo Clinic web site, cysts can cause the following symptoms:

■ Menstrual irregularities
■ Pelvic pain — a constant or intermittent dull ache that may radiate to your lower back and thighs
■ Pelvic pain shortly before your period begins or just before it ends
■ Pelvic pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)
■ Pain during bowel movements or pressure on your bowels
■ Nausea, vomiting or breast tenderness similar to that experienced during pregnancy
■ Fullness or heaviness in your abdomen
■ Pressure on your rectum or bladder — difficulty emptying your bladder completely

You could be pregnant and have had negative pregnancy tests because there wasn't enough HCG (the pregnancy hormone) in your urine at the time that you tested. If you are, it would be good to know now instead of waiting a few more weeks, since what you said would put you already in the midst or last part of the first trimester.

Or you might not be pregnant, in which case it's probably a good idea to tell your doctor what's going on and ask for an opinion.

It may still be a hormonal reaction that your body is having to going off the pill and resetting its hormonal cycle for itself. But in any case, seems like it would be better to know instead of waiting. Can you get in to see your doctor sooner?
