Hi,
Why were you prescribed Efudex (topical fluorouracil)? Did you have a certain type of skin cancer or lesions?
The FDA has a site called "MedWatch" where you can search for drugs, and see if there have been any reports on the safety or effectiveness of medications, as well as any contraindications (when you should not take the drug), etc.
The fine print for this drug says it has not been found to have carcinogenic properties, but there are many warnings for not taking this drug if you have an enzyme deficiency, as well as other conditions. I did not see any obvious relation to this drug and thyroid tumors, as it is used as in chemotherapy treatment to TREAT cancer and tumors (however, not in the topical form, as you are using it). This does sound like a powerful drug, with numerous side effects. Did you use it as prescribed, and consult with your medical doctor? Did your dermatologist go through the side effects of this drug with you?
Are you trying to determine the cause of your thyroid tumors, and wondering if the Efudex was a culprit?
You can do more research at the FDA's MedWatch site here.
MedlinePlus has some information on this drug as well that you can read here.
