Hi Anon

Thank you for your post!

What treatment are you currently getting for your condition?

Talk with your doctor about the best plan for you. Treatment options include:

Physical Therapy

Therapy for this condition is focused on teaching you how to manage your back pain. This may involve:

  • Posture training
  • Exercise
  • Ice packs
  • Heating
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Relaxation
  • Other forms of physical therapy

Steroid injections may be used for some pain relief. They are injected around the nerves exiting the spinal cord.

Surgery may be required for some. Surgery may involve removing the degenerated disk and fusing two of the vertebra together.

In terms of pregnancy, you may have to have a c-section and be under the care of an orthopedic specialist. There may be a risk in terms of receiving an epidural too. You may need bed rest and consult about different birthing positions so you not further damage your back.

At 46, you will already be a high risk pregnancy so talk to an OB doctor to see the best way to go about this. At 46, you will need to try for pregnancy as soon as possible so you will want to be well-prepared!

Women with DDD have healthy babies all the time. I hope you will let us know if/when you have some good news!
