My bf and I had unprotected sex right atfer I just ended my period I took plan B pills and the next day I got my period again even though I just had it 3 days earlier. But now I still haven't gotten my period. Is it possible that I'm just late?

Can anyone please help me? I'm thinking I'm just going to get my period really late. Or is it possible that I am pregnant? Answers asap please.

Yes. That makes alot of sense and really helps settle alot of nerves. I have been talking with my doctor on what birth control I can get on, were trying to figure out the best fit for me. THANK YOU for getting back to me. This helps a lot.

I figured you were not on birth control since you said you had "unprotected sex".

Protected or safer sex (from pregnancy) would indicate that you were using a form of birth control. Protected sex from pregnancy AND STDs would include using a condom.

No...taking birth control or not would not make your period late. Using emergency contraception can cause an irregular period for a cycle (maybe two), so just make sure you are counting DAYS not DATES on a calendar to know if your period is really "late" or not. As long as the first day of one period...counting to the first day of your next period is between 21-35 days, then your period is just irregular and not "late".

Does that make sense?

I am in the same situation. Back in January my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. It didn't last long because we notice really fast how caught up in the moment we got and he pulled out before even ejaculating. I took plan b within 36 hours of having sex. I had cramps and didn't feel well the day after I took it and then a week 1/2 after taking it, i got my period. It last 4 days and was like a normal period to me, just only at the wrong time. A few weeks after that, when I was originally supppossed to get my period, I had a light period ( or at least what i thought was a period). It was brownish with hints of the normal red color in it and it was very very light and last about A day/ day 1/2. Since then I haven't gotten my period and I'm a week late. I'm very worried that I may be period. What should I do!? Am I pregnant!?

Hi,
Since you've had two periods since this one episode of unprotected sex, it indicates that you are not pregnant. It is the absence of a period or bleeding that would be concerning! Regardless of color (pink, red, brown) or if it is lighter of heavier...you have had a period and are not pregnant. I'm glad to hear that you were able to use EC so quickly! Have you and your boyfriend talked about what type of birth control you will use in the future (you know...you two will get "caught up in the moment" again, so best to be prepared!). Condoms are up to 98% effective and hormonal contraception (pill, ring, etc) is up to 99% effective at preventing pregnancy (compared to EC that is in the 70-80% range).

Emergency contraception can alter your periods for a cycle or two...they can be earlier, later, lighter, heavier, longer, shorter...and that is just because EC is a "mega dose" of hormones (nothing harmful) that can cause irregular periods or breakthrough bleeding (bleeding in-between periods; more like spotting).

I took plan B on Sunday morning, within 12 hours after unprotected sex. I do believe that it was in my "dangerous" time - ovulating (give or take a couple of days). The day I took it I slept most of the day as I was sooooooooooo tired. The next day I was still pretty tired and just not myself... both symptoms I attributed to plan B.
Now we're Thursday and for the last 2-3 days I have been having period like cramps... Even back ache (just like when I am getting ready to have my period). I spotted brown a tiny bit on Monday and Tuesday... I have been pregnant before (have two kids) and I had these symptoms when I was pregnant with them, but only after my periods were due (or around that time)... not days after conception.
I was wondering if it was normal that I would start feeling crampy a couple of days after plan B. Everything I read says that all side effect should be gone within 2 days... so I don't know

When are you expecting your next period?

Your cramping and spotting can be normal, and could either be attributed to Plan B or from an upcoming period. If you continue having symptoms after 7 days, you may want to call your doctor.

EC can cause your period to be early (which may be what you are experiencing...early PMS symptoms), and it can also cause your period to be late or irregular for a cycle or two.

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your question. It is very common for your period to be irregular after taking Plan B. As advertised, you may take Plan B up to 72 hours after your sexual encounter. Plan B interferes with the body’s production of progesterone necessary to sustain pregnancy which in turn may cause your hormones to be abnormal.

If you check this post, you will see that many women who have used Plan B in the past says it takes up to 6 months for them to resume normal periods. If you have any concern, you could obtain a pregnancy test to calm your fears.

I hope this helps. Please keep us updated.
