If I have a cold sore on my lip and I give my partner oral sex can he get genital herpes ?

Hi Anonymous,

Cold Sores are typically caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1, while genital herpes is usually caused by herpes simplex virus type 2. However, you CAN contract genital herpes through oral sex with someone with a cold sore and the same way, genital herpes can be transferred to the mouth.

I hope this clarifies any confusion,
