Q:

I'm pregnant, not sure what to do next

I'm currently coming up to being 7 weeks pregnant, me and my partner agreed from the beginning to have an abortion. However I'm now not too sure whether to or not, I've discussed this with him and found out he is having the same feelings.
We've got a scan and consultation on the 18th at the clinic. I can only get termination before 9 weeks. The only cons of having a baby right now, is that I'm 21 and we both want to be more financially stable. I'm worried also if I decide to keep it, how my family would react.

My mind is all over the place at the moment and I have only one other person I have told and she's telling me it will ruin my life. Some advice will be great.
Thanks

Hello Abster

Thank you for your post.

Babies don't ruin lives but they do change them dramatically.

Finances and being in a stable relationship (especially the latter) is extremely important when bringing a tiny human into the world. You are a grown woman, at 21, so the opinions of your family don't matter. While it would be great to have their support, many a woman has a child despite objections and family grow to love the child. And even if they don't, family opinions don't matter. However, you'll have to set up a good support system for yourself.

You will have to work to support your baby and so will your partner. You may or may not stay together. Everything will be a struggle - that can't be denied. But you're not super young; you should have the maturity by now to deal with a pregnancy.

You also have the right to choose to terminate. If you truly feel this baby will not be cared for properly or you may find yourself (and baby) on the streets, then you have options. Adoption is also an option.

You alone need to make this decision. It's not an easy one, I agree. Whatever you decide to do, do it quickly and make sure you know you can be at peace with that decision, hard enough as it will be.

Best,
Susan
