Q:

Is it possible to keep "wet" humping safe?

I understand that dry humping, humping with clothes on, is a relatively low risk activity. What about humping with underwear on, or completely naked. How high risk are those behaviors and is there anything that can be done to make them safer? ( I am specifically thinking about sex between 2 women, so pregnancy wouldn't be a concern.)

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I have a clarifying question. Does wearing underwear make sexual contact less risky than being naked?

Great question. The short answer is: yes (depending on the type of underwear).

The long answer:
What makes sexual activity "risky" is on a continuum, based on ease of transmitting disease or infection (since you are not concerned about pregnancy):
- Highest risk involves exchanging of bodily fluids (from vagina and anus, also mouth)

- Lowest risk involves no exchange of bodily fluids and no skin-to-skin genital contact (caressing with hands, kissing, humping with clothes on).

If you and your partner wear underwear and it is covering both genitals with no bodily fluids coming into contact with each other, this is considered lower risk.

Sometimes underwear is being worn, but can easily be pushed aside. There are many types of underwear...everything from "boy shorts" or boxers to the tiniest thong, so what is important is to know that some STDs and STIs (sexually transmitted infections) can be transmitted from skin-to-skin contact.

Bottom line: the underwear you and your partner are wearing only protects the parts that are being covered.

Does that help? Please let us know if you have any additional clarification questions...we're happy to help!

Hi Anonymous,

Sex, even between two women needs to be protected sex. If you are engaging in any sexual activity naked with another woman, you still risk the chance of diseases as you are exchanging bodily fluids. To engage in proper safe sex with another woman, you can click on this website that provides detailed information about how to properly have safe sex http://www.avert.org/lesbians-safe-sex.htm.

There is plenty of information on this site but if you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your question.
