Q:

My 17 year old daughters period is late

My daughter has been stressed lately and has not gotten her period. She usually has it every 19 to 22 days. She had sex in April 10 2010, but has had her period every month since then. Should I be worried?
Thank you concerned Mom

Hi Concerned mom,
You said your daughter has received her period every month since April 10th, so I am wondering when was her last menstrual period? Can you tell us the date (the first day she began bleeding, during her last period).

Women can have late, even missed, periods for many reasons. If they are sexually active, ruling out pregnancy may be a priority through a home pregnancy test. Other reasons for missed or late periods are due to excess stress, extreme weight loss/weight gain, over-exercising, recent illness, new medication or medical conditions.

Since your daughter is sexually active, has she been seen at a gynecologist's office for her annual pap smear recently?
