Is my body trying to tell me I am pregnant?

My periods have been regular for years; the 9th of every month. My boyfriend and I have unprotected sex quite frequently. Last month my period was a week late, and it wasn't usual, normally it lasts five day, and a consistent flow. But it was different and only lasted three days. This month, it's now a week before my period and I'm having strange light bleeding, and small spots that look filmy come out when I urinate. It's been happening for about three days now, I can't even sleep through the night because my lower stomach has an uncomfortable heaviness. Any idea what is going on??

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about possibly being pregnant.

This may be implantation bleeding, which happens when the fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall. It is scanty and pink or brown in color. It happens about six to 10 days following conception. It lasts only a few days, flow does not increase, and it goes away on its own.

If the spotting does not increase to a menstrual flow, take a home pregnancy test.
