Hi,
I am 28 years old and my husband and I want to try for a baby. I have always had regular periods but last month I was 20 days late, I took a pregnancy test but it was negative and a couple of days later my period came but it was really heavy and I had really bad cramps. This month again no period has come and I am about 22 days late, pregnancy test is negative again :-( . I started a new job a few months ago and I now work night shifts from working days. Do you think this could be a reason why my cycle has changed? I hope it gets back to normal soon as we really want a baby. Also I cannot work out when I am ovulating as I keep being late. Any advice would help
Thanks
Amy

Hey my period has always been irregular. So In April when it didnt come on I wasn't worried, but this time it didn't come on in May either. So I knew then I was pregnant until yesterday which was Sunday June 2 when my period came on. I was so confused!!! What does this means???

Hi Anon

It would appear that you skipped a period for some reason. Reasons for skipping periods include being ill, over-exercising, or stress.

And some people with irregular periods can skip a month for no discernible reason - that's the nature of irregularity.

Susan

hi..I read through a lot of the comments and responses that have already been posted, hoping for a little bit of insight. I just wanted to say that I greatly appreciate the time taken to answer every single one of these questions individually.

So, anyways. My question is as follows...

My period is normally fairly regular... it comes at the very end of the month, or the very beginning [aka before or by the 1st, or 2nd at the latest]. last month my period was almost a full week late. this month, i'm not sure whether to go off of my old schedule or based upon what happened last month. either way, today is the 7th, so i'm already a little late even if I am going by my previous late period. I am on no birth control, my diet hasn't changed. I can't think of any reason why my periods may have been late. My boyfriend and I have unprotected sex. I took a test last month before my late period, and about a week after my last period. What are the chances that I might be pregnant and should take another test ? Is this normal ? What else might be the issue ?

Any advice, counsel, opinions, or thoughts are appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi Anon

How old are you? Our cycles change throughout our adulthood and changes can be more evident at a particular time, for no particular reason - the same with PMS symptoms. They can disappear after years of being really bad. This is all due to hormonal fluctuations and these fluctuations are often due to age.

Also, if you are having unprotected sex then of course pregnancy is a possibility. You have about a 20% chance of pregnancy every months if you don't have protected sex.

Best,

Susan

Hi Anon

Pregnancy could be the case; it's a good idea to test as soon as possible, just to rule it out.

If you are not pregnancy, it could be due to the start of perimenopause, where periods aren't quite as regular anymore.

Good luck to you,

Susan

Hi Anon

Yes, this may be the start of per-menopause, where period become less regular and can be later in coming, or longer. You can get this checked with your doctor if your symptoms become difficult. but this is a very natural part of life. You can read more here: http://www.empowher.com/sexual-well-being/content/menopausal-transition-...
