Dr. Daniel Heller

Mandy, in addition to medications, there are natural alternatives to medication that have been proven to be effective, and in fact are often recommended by health practitioners before trying medication. Diet, exercise, avoiding caffeine, stress management, and vitamins, minerals and certains herbs are all possibilities. Although you may decide that medication is the best fit for you, I'd hate to see anyone go on medication without considering all the alternatives, especially when there are ones that work, without side effects.
I created the site www.pmscomfort.com to educate women about these alternatives. womenshealth.gov is another source of reliable information as you research this.

Hi Mandy-

There are several medications for this type of problem. If it is beyond symptoms of PMS, sometimes it is called PMDD. We have good information on this topic: http://www.empowher.com/condition/pmdd

This is a real issue for many women, and medications can make a big difference in how you feel. I suggest you speak to your health care provider or gynecologist about your symptoms. They will be able to prescribe the medication you agree is appropriate to your situation.

Good luck.
