This is just an odd feeling for me. I have always had sore breast pryor but never to the extent of hard to wear a bra. I am concerned if this is something that i should call my ob/gyn about.

Tonya,
You mentioned "monthly cycle" in your question, and sore, tender breasts are definitely a norm for many women, as a result of hormone changes during their menstrual cycle.
Other causes could be pregnancy or an infection.
We would suggest a call to your ob/gyn and talk with the nurse who knows your medical history, and it would definitely be a good idea to make an appointment to rule out anything serious (or, be given some medication to prevent further infection).
Dear Tonya,
Thank you so much for asking your question. I also noticed that you added "monthly cycle" to the question above but I'm not sure if you mean your breast tenderness is only at this time, or if it's all month long. It sounds from your post that breast tenderness is common for you but that it's getting noticeably worse.
I have had a similar issue myself, and I know other friends who have mentioned that one breast tends to be more sensitive than the other, so I know you are far from alone in dealing with a sore breast. What concerns me is that it's getting worse.
When it comes to our breasts, I really don't think we can be too careful. I definitely agree with alison b and I think a call to your OB/GYN is a great idea. That way he or she can do a clinical exam of both breasts in the office and ask you some questions about your symptoms and rule out anything serious.
Have you by chance been drinking way more caffeine than normal? One of my girlfriends swears that every time she hits Starbucks way more than normal her left breast acts up, and it's even worse as her period time approaches.
Please post again to let us know what your doctor says. Best of health to you, M
I will discuss this issue with my ob/gyn. I plan to call her nurse when the clinic opens. I do only have sore breast around my monthly cycle, not all month long. Usually only a few days before this time a week or so, with just a mild tenderness. The tingling sensation kind of comes and goes. It almost feels as if maybe they are growing. They do seem to feel fuller and my bra is noticibly tighter today. So as soon as I talk to my ob, I will repost to let you know what the nurse says. Also in answer to your caffeine question, I have actually cut back. I started a water drinking binge last week. 2 cups of morning coffee (which is normal) then water with lemon for the work day and i usually drink juice or ice water with my dinner.
Hi Tonya! I'm so glad you called today to speak with the nurse at your OB/GYN's office. And thank you too for clarifying when you were experiencing these symptoms in your breast. I think most women get changes in one or both breasts around the time of their periods.
I thought your description of how it feels like it's growing was just perfect and so descriptive--I know exactly what you mean!
When you can, please let us know how the conversation with the nurse went today. I admire you for taking charge of your health! M
The nurse told me to wait it out until my period is over, if sensation continues over a week after my period ends, that she would like to see me. The sensation comes and goes, so I am sure that it is just hormonal.
Hi Im 21 and these last 2 weeks I have been having sore aching breasts and very sensitive nipples. They ere kinda itchy at first and now just sore, I put lotion on them so yea. I had sex maybe about a month ago or 4 weeks ago and used a condom but I know it didnt break and Im not sure if its signs of pregnancy? or if its to early to have symtoms.?
Hi, Anon, and thank you for your question.
When was the start date of your last period?
Are you on any sort of birth control in addition to using condoms?
Are your periods regular?
I can't make a guess as to whether you're pregnant without knowing a little bit more. For instance, you say you had sex about a month ago. If that sex was in the middle of your cycle, you are about two weeks late. If that sex was at the very beginning of your cycle, you may not be late at all. Do you see why I'm asking?
And do you normally have any PMS symptoms with your periods?
I too have experienced problems with tender nipples, but only a few times when they have been extremely sore. During these times of extreme soreness, I was also experiencing extreme stress. I also believe that caffeine accentuates this problem, it's just that we're all so addicted, we don't want to admit it.
I believe I too have experienced the "tingling" you describe. I have used the word "buzzing" to describe the sensation I'm feeling. It feels like a bee is buzzing inside my nipple. Unlike the tenderness though, I have not noticed any relation to this and stress or caffeine, and only in my one nipple in my larger breast. I add this detail as it has been explained to me by doctors that the ovary connected to this breast is the one that is active. So, I figure this is just normal hormonal activity. The same is not true in regard to nipple tenderness. When it comes to this problem, both breasts are given equal opportunity!
Hope this helps!
