Yesterday while I was at work, I had to pee so much. It seemed like it was almost every half hour. I don't ever have my period, its very irregular ever since I started. But also, it was burning a little too. But I was wondering what the causes of utis, are. I've had sex lately also. On more thing, it was only like that for that day.now today (the next day) it isn't like that anymore. I'm so worried please give your opinion?

Hi runnergirl,

Urinary tract infections are caused by bacterias that enter the urinary tract. The causes are

  • Sex: female
  • Being sexually active
  • Using a diaphragm for birth control
  • Menopause
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney stones
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Weak immune system
  • Abnormalities of the urinary system, including vesicoureteral reflux , polycystic kidneys
  • Paraplegia
  • Sickle-cell anemia
  • History of kidney transplant
  • Bladder catheter in place, or recent device inserted into the urinary system
  • Pregnancy
  •

If your period is late, take a pregnancy test. However, drinking a lot of water to try and flush out your system or cranberry juice can help knock out the UTI although most times you have to make an appointment with your doctor to get antibiotics.

    I hope this helps.
