What are my chances of getting pregnant if i missed one pill and made it up ASAP?

I missed one pill Thursday night, in my third week, but made it up as soon as i woke up on Friday morning. I also took my pill about 3 hours late on Saturday night, which would have been my last active pill. My boyfriend and I had sex soon after. We used a condom, but it broke. He had already went shortly before we had sex. He went inside of me not knowing the condom broke, but he barely went. What are my chances of getting pregnant?

Hello,

I am on Sprintec and I have been for almost two months now. I took my very first pack of pills correctly and on time everyday, and retrieved my second packet on time, and took the first two days of pills on time. However, I missed pill three because I did not have it on me at the time. I was fully aware of this, and I took it as soon as I could, about 12 hours after the time I was supposed to. I then took my fourth pill on time, so I took two pills in one day. I am concerned because I have been reading a lot about missing just one pill. Some say you do not need backup protection for just missing one pill if you make it up. Some say that you do. The instructions on my pill medication pamphlet say that if I miss one pill and make it up as I did, no backup protection is required. So, I went with my pill's instructions and did not use backup. I had unprotected sex 4 days after I missed the pill, and then a week after the pill. Thus, I have two questions.
1.) How much risk did I put myself in? Are we all basically guaranteed pregnancy by missing one pill in the first week and not using back up? Am I likely to be pregnant now? I am certain that my partner did not ejacuxate inside of me. I did check, but I want to leave no room for error.
2.) If the rules have changed about if you need to use backup after missing one pill, why do people continue to spread misinformation?
I realize how stupid and pathetic my worries might sound; I should be more mature than this, but I would just like some peace of mind.

Hello Anonymous,

I am glad you reached out to us with your concerns.

According to rxlist.com, "If you miss one active pill, take two pills on the day that you remember. Then take one pill per day for the rest of the pack."

Using back-up birth control for at least 7 days following the missed pills is recommended if you miss two active pills in a row in week 1 or 2.

Anonymous, it appears you made up for the missed dose correctly and if there was no ejaculation, you should be okay. For peace of mind, you could always check with your gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann

Hi!
I am on tricyclen lo. About 2 weeks ago I accidentally took 2 pills in one day, then I skipped then next day and the continued taking my pills regularly and correctly. I'm assuming I am still protected because it was like missing one pill in the backwards order?
Thanks!

Hi Anonymous,

I think you should still be protected. You can double check with a call to your gynecologist or mention it to your pharmacist.

I missed one pill about 2 weeks ago, maybe 1.5 weeks. I have been taking birth control for probably close to a year. Unfortunately, I did not know about 'making up for' your forgotten pill by taking it when you remembered. So i just continued one pill at the regular time, the next day.
Today, I've started to notice spotting. Quite a LOT of it. It's almost like the very first hour of my period - except all day. I'm not due for my period for another week and I have not forgotten any more pills. I have regular unprotected sex with my partner.
Should I be worried?
