Q:

What are my chances of getting pregnant if i missed one pill and made it up ASAP?

I missed one pill Thursday night, in my third week, but made it up as soon as i woke up on Friday morning. I also took my pill about 3 hours late on Saturday night, which would have been my last active pill. My boyfriend and I had sex soon after. We used a condom, but it broke. He had already went shortly before we had sex. He went inside of me not knowing the condom broke, but he barely went. What are my chances of getting pregnant?

Hello Anonymous,

No, you should not take Plan B. You did the right thing by doubling up on the dose once your realized that you missed a pill.

I took my combination pill about eight hours late yesterday and my boyfriend and I had sex that night. We used a condom, but it fell off so we put a new one on. Do you think I need to take an emergency contraceptive?

Hello Anonymous,

No, you should not need to take an emergency contraceptive because you took the pill for yesterday, though late, and your boyfriend used a condom.

Hello Anonymous,

That is a very good question.

Did you make up for the missed pills by taking the missed doses as you as you realized what had happened?

There is a rule of 7 when it comes to missing birth control pills. Timing is also crucial. Going seven days without an active hormone pills eliminates the protection provided by the pill. So, you would have been taking the inactive pills for five days then missed at least two more doses.

By now, I'm guessing either you started your period or have started a new pack?

Check with your gynecologist as to what to do.

Maryann

Hi,
I've been taking the pill for 3 years and I've never missed it..until recently. Since it was the holidays I got my days confused and missed my last active pill. My boyfriend and I had sex and he finished in me the day of or after (I forget which day) , but i got my period the day after (a day early than it usually is) and that's when I realized I forgot to take my pill but it was too late to take it when I realized. My period was normal, and I'm starting the second row of my pills and I have small cramps for no reason. Is there a possibility of me being pregnant?
Thanks!

Hello Anonymous,

You are not pregnant because you had a normal period which started the following day.

The mild cramps could be anxiety induced.

Hello Anonymous,

If you have not started your period by the time you finish the inactive pills in the pack, call your gynecologist. You can take a home pregnancy test or your doctor may order a blood pregnancy test before you start a new pack.
