Cyndi Shares Why She Decided To Undergo Bariatric Surgery (VIDEO)

Cyndi explains why she chose to have bariatric surgery.

Cyndi:
I chose bariatric surgery because I needed to make a change in my life. I was not happy with who I was. I was healthy. Even though I was obese, I was healthy. But being a nurse I knew what obesity would cause in the long run. I had small children at the time, and I wasn’t able to do things with my children that I wanted to do. So the quality of life wasn’t there either.

My turning point was actually in Disney’s and when I was asked to get off a ride because I did not fit. I was weighing 336 pounds at the time, and that’s when I really stared at my face, and I said I had to do something. I was 27 years old and I did not want to walk into my 30s this way and not being able to get up from the floor after playing with my children.

So really it was just a whole flux of things, but it really became a reality then, and so I researched. I had never had surgery before. Being a nurse, sometimes knowing too much, it’s sometimes scary.

It is very easy to give a consent to a patient and tell them to sign on the dotted line, but when it comes to you as well as your loved ones, it’s a different story. It’s a different ball park. So all that nursing knowledge, everything goes out the window. It’s all about you now.

So after I did my research, I decided, it took me about two years to say okay, this is it. Within those two years I really honestly tried every diet known to man, and they were just not working. Diets don’t work, and we don’t use that word here in our program. It’s a lifestyle change, and when I was ready to make that commitment to say, okay, from this point on, that’s it. There’s no looking back. I did have my surgery.

Thank God, I have never had any complications. I have been a successful patient, lost 196 pounds. It has been seven years, on the 22 of February of this year, and I would do it all over again.
