VIDEO - HERSTORY: Rosa Shares Her Motivation To Have Gastric Bypass Surgery

Rosa introduces herself and describes her motivation for having gastric bypass surgery.

Rosa:
Hi, my name is Rosa, and I had a gastric bypass done by Dr. Dahiya. I lost 100 pounds and I would like to share my story with you.

The moment was when I went to just a regular check-up and the doctor told me that I was very ill from my liver. My liver was like somebody who drink all their life, and I don’t drink. And most of us know that there’s nothing to get your liver cured. There’s no medication. All they can do for me at that time is put me on a waiting list to get a donor. On top of that, I had high cholesterol; it runs in my family, so there was no way they could give me cholesterol medication to get rid of the high cholesterol.

Everything had to be done through diet, but also I had high risk of getting a heart attack because of the high cholesterol. That’s why I decided I had to look into other options. I even had a, I went outside the country to look for medication for my liver. At that time, my little one, my baby was only like a year old, and there’s no way I can just leave her by herself. I had a lot of moments to live with her, including my oldest one.

I had to help to put her through college or whatever she wanted to become. My middle one, no, there’s no way I can leave. I have to do something for, not just myself, this is for my whole entire family. My motivation wasn’t because “Oh, I want to look skinny.” I have always been overweight all my life. No, that wasn’t it. It was health issues.

It was, I wanted to be part of all the family moments. Like I said, my little one is only one-year-old. I want her to have her mom when she is walking down the aisle or my oldest one becoming whatever she want to become–a doctor, a lawyer, whatever--and there was no way I want to leave them behind.
