I received a flu shot last year at a rite aid pharmacy. She gave the shot too low in my arm and she hit the protective covering surrounding the nerve. I lost the use of my hand for a little over 3 months. I had to go to physical therapy 3 times a week for quite a while. I was so scared I wouldn't ever get the use of my hand back. Doctor's told me that it takes a very long time for a nerve injury to heal. It has been a year now and I am so grateful I got the use of my hand back but am now terrified of any needles. I can't bring myself to get a flu shot this year. I still have a lot of problems still with that hand and arm. The injection site is still tender when touched. I strongly suggest that people get their flu shots or any kind of injection at their doctors office and not a pharmacy although I will probably just avoid them alltogether now.

Hi Anon Thank you so much for this SHARE and we are very sorry to know this happened to you. As you may have read here on EmpowHER, we have heard from hundreds of people dealing with the same thing. Anytime I need to be poked, I make a small mark on where I want it done and make sure it 's done right there. I don't get flu shots, haven't for years but ironically decided to this year, as my winter flu's and associated sicknesses are becoming too much to deal with every winter, especially with young kids and such a busy schedule. But based on so many comments from readers like yourself, I may not get the injection vaccination.
I hope you continue to improve and I'm going to take your advice and go to my doctor's office this year.
Have you looked into doing the nasal spray flu vaccination instead? This is what I may do.
Best,
Susan
