If you’re thinking about conceiving, give up alcohol and cigarettes now. Kicking the habit now gives you time to get the job done and lets you prove to yourself that you can. You’ll feel better knowing you’re already smoke-free when you get pregnant. If you do illicit drugs, now is the time to kick them, too. If you quit using before you get pregnant, you’ll have plenty of time to get help kicking the habit if you need it.
Find a Doctor

Make the Pill Decision
If you are using birth control pills, you need to decide when to stop taking them. While it is possible to get pregnant as soon as the hormones from the pill leave your system, some women take a few months to start ovulating regularly again. If you and your partner elect to stop using hormonal birth control now, you run the risk of getting pregnant right away. If you don’t, it may take several months of actively trying to conceive before you get pregnant. You and your partner need to determine the best approach for you.
