I have recently had a blood test that could not be processed, Test is called methanephrine. Twice I’ve been told that an un identified substance was interfering with the test. They could not identify what this substance was.
Called my endocrinologist who ordered the test who told me to either: skip the test, go to another lab or don’t take thyroid meds before I re take test. ??
He also said he doesn’t think thyroid meds are cause of blood test issue.
Spoke to lab who did some more checking and said thyroid med could be reason test can’t be processed. Suggested not to take meds for two or three days and redo test.
My question is , will skipping my thyroid meds for two days then take it on 3rd day, right after blood test cause any issues with me? (My thyroid was chemically removed in 1992) I have been on thyroid meds ever since.
Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

Hello Marooka
Thank you for writing.
I understand how difficult it is to get two different opinions on why your tests cannot be accurate.
Thyroid medications are important, as you know. We cannot advise anyone to skip them for several days in order to take a test. If you have skipped your meds before and not had a bad reaction, it may be ok to take them again on the third day after your test, especially since this is a one-off test. But this is a question you need to ask your doctor. If he/she and YOU think it will be ok, then go ahead. But you need to run this by your doctor first and make the decision yourself. Please keep us updated.
