Heather:

It was really uncomfortable for me at first. My sponsor was asking me to pray at night before I went to bed and in the morning when I woke up and it was really uncomfortable, but I was willing to go to any lengths to get rid of my addiction and I did it anyways and before I knew it I was having all these god shots is what I call them; they’re coincidences, whatever you want to call them they are meant to be there and you don’t see them every day. You don’t see them when you want to see them. You see them when you need them; when you need something to pull you up out of wherever you are.

And, one day I was sitting outside of a meeting that I had come out of and I was just talking to my new friends and he mentioned this girl that he knew. Well that girl was one of my friends who had died two years ago and, it’s crazy that she was going to the same meetings that I am now going to. It’s a god shot and what’s even crazier is the day that she died was the day before Easter, which was the day I asked for help and, it’s like that’s been there for two years and I didn’t see it until now and I wouldn’t have saw it if I wouldn’t have stopped.

Spirituality is the basis in most 12 step programs. I've been in AA for a very long time, and for me, its the only way for me to live a happy, healthy, sober life.

You are a very special person Heather to share your most personal story with us. It takes great strength of character to make the steps and choices you are making now. I pray for your continued strength. You will be able to help so many people that think they can not do it as you can show them how they too, can do it! Love Aunt Heather
