I am 54. Went into pre-menopause and gained 40 lbs. I've tried several diets, including the 6 week body makeover. I just don't know what to do anymore.
1. Plan my meals in advance. That way, I don't end up grabbing something that's unhealthy just because I'm hungry.
2. I eat several small meals a day. I usually eat a light breakfast, a light "early lunch" (around 11), a light "late lunch" (around 2 or 3), and then a moderate dinner. If I deviate from that, I have a hard time losing weight, since this helps the metabolism go strong all day long.
3. I think picking a fitness plan that coordinates with your daily routine is key. I personally find that workout DVD's are perfect for me because that takes out a monthly bill from the gym -- and the convenience factor is perfect for my busy schedule
I attribute these key routines to my weight loss. I'm down 15+ since January, and have never felt better.

Exercise 30 to 60 minutes each day.
Eat three healthy meals a day, including a good breakfast.
Focus on fruits and vegetables.
Weigh yourself regularly.
Eat healthy foods first.
Eat at home.
Walk for 10 minutes afer lunch.
Mainly lifestyle and discipline. What really is key for me is satisfying cravings when they hit instead of ignoring them. This provides mental as well as physical satisfaction.
I have been drinking Vi Shakes and have lost 53 pounds.
I lost 80 pounds and kept it off for over three years! I didn't follow any diet what so ever! I adjusted the foods I already ate to be more healthy and exercised more, that's it! I also made sure to spice it up, I kept trying different workouts, I'd try different classes, I'd run one day then bike the other, I'd never do the same routine back to back to make sure I was working on every muscle group. I lost 91 pounds by eating the following food:
Blueberries, blackberries, or apple.
1 slice of dry, 100% whole-grain toasted bread with 1 slice of 99% fat free turkey breast.
1 fresh tomato
Hot tea (no milk, no sugar)
1 capsule of Omega 3
Grilled skinless chicken breast, lots of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and green or red paper. All vegetables fresh and uncooked. Once a week just chicken and lots of spinach.

Hi in late June of this year I ran across this website called beyonddiet.com and I bit and paid the 45 for a lifetime membership. I spent several weeks reviewing everything she had on her site. I have lost close to 15 lbs since I started eating healthier I refuse to say I'm on a diet I'm not I have made a lifestyle change. I do not eat sugar or white flour, I stay away from high fructose corn syrup and anything with soy in it. I eat grass fed beef and pork, organic chicken and eggs. I eat more fruit and veggies too.....really what I learned on beyond diet is not anything new it just helped me to finally realize how much crap is in our food .... Kinda scary really. Anyway it's not as if I never eat sugar but it's in moderation now and my rule is I have to make the treat - cake or cookies I figure yeah it might have the sugar but and least it's fresh and I can pronounce every ingredient in them. And it's just in moderation, once you start making your own treats you realize the store bought aren't worth the calories anyway. So basically my diet is meat, veggies, and fruit. The only fats I use are olive oil and coconut oil and leaf lard (moderation on the leaf lard).
Hi, I've gained weighed up and down throughout, sometimes even 30 pounds in 3 weeks. However, I developed this type of diet, and with that, and some walking I lost 60 pounds in 2 months. What I did is limit your self to fluid intake, such as avoid Soda!! Soda is a big one. I stuck with Milk (Lactaid milk), Certain Juices that are 100% but you can only have a fairly small amount like Cranberry, Pomagranite, Apple. And the most important Water!!! Usually to Kick in your metabolism you have to eat as soon as you can in the morning. With 5-10 minutes. Get out a glass of milk, water (No flavor additives), Half a grapefruit, A cereal with whole grains, Sugar (use the fake sugar if you must have sugar, but nothing that contains splenda in it. That includes foods as well or if you get flavored water)..., And you can change up the main course but always leave the first 3 things (grape fruit, water, milk) With one egg no need for separating the yolk from the white, Chop up and use fresh veggies or frozen. Onions, Kale, Red peppers, Orange, yellow green what have you, If you like spice put some spice in it, If you have a lot of heart burn problems, Sprinkle Ginger powder but not too much because the flavor can become potent quick., Garlic powder, or fresh. Even adding some green bean, lima beans, carrots, cabbage go wild you'd be surprised what flavors u can bring together. For meats, stick with Turkey, Chicken, <- the most out of that this is going Tuna (very minimal), High lean Beef -(once a week), Pork- (1 every 3 weeks), ..((If you don't like how dry the beef is, cook in in a little bit of water but don't completely flood it Adding your flavors to quick with it, it will soak up all the flavor, You can use also things like Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Veggies, Kale will be very important and is great to cook with. It will soak up whatever flavors your cooking with and you can mince it or have it as a whole leaf. Eating it plain is not recommended. Celery, Carrots, Broccoli, Lima bean, Peas,... You will want to stay away from things like White bread, Pastas, And stick more with Rice, and wheat bread. You can choose three meals a day, but works best is 5 small but balanced meals a day. Depends on how your schedule. You will want to eat more if your on your feet a lot. (days where you lounge will go to 3 meals a day) Fruits, are tricky, because it does contain sugar some in which is healthy, but quantities should be somewhat low for this. Blue berries, are good to put in your whole grain cereal ( i like kashi, it tastes really good when you add fresh fruit) Bananas, Strawberries. Apples, but probably want to eat only half of it and save the rest by slicing up the rest for the next day or so. Send me some messages if your interested in some recipes, Its really hard to put everything down here... and p.s. portions are always important.!!! And avoid using salt, and instead use other spices and powders to flavor your meal. (For rice you can make it sweet , spicy or robust flavor just by adding spice into the boiling water, you can use this with pasta but portions are recommended and pasta isn't used everyday, if you are going to have one busy day and need the energy you are going to need the pasta. ... again message me if have any questions.
I had great success with Body for Life- I didn't follow the exercise routine exactly (was less concerned with building muscle at the time)- but I lost a ton of weight and toned up amazingly well.
What I love is the one "free day" part- I found that to be a huge help because I was able to take a break from the intense routine. After awhile, you get used to the healthy eating- I've since added back a lot of foods in moderation. I also had to adapt it for a vegetarian diet.
As for diet, my suggestions should be no surprise. Try eating more raw food just to cut down on weight and avoid sugary food.
More than that, however, I suggest changes to your lifestyle if you haven't already made them. By this I mean try eating dinner a lot earlier before you sleep and taking a little walk right after. Try focusing more on keeping your body active and exercise a lot more rather than trying to cut down on food. It is more important to stay healthy. Good luck!
I believe the best way to lose weight is by eating a healthy diet and staying away from the SAD (standard American Diet). That includes quitting: refined sugars, refined wheat products, most dairy products. I really think that if we eat wholesome foods such as fruit, veggies and free-range, antibiotic and hormone-free eggs and meat, along with organic or raw dairy, you'll soon loose the weight. Sugar is a big threat to your health and I also advocate going on a gluten-free diet or even a grain-free diet if you can handle it. It takes some time getting used to, but the results are worth it. I find that replacing wheat with gluten-free/ rice products doesnt' do the trick, but replacing carbs with Real food really helps! Hope this helps... Good luck!

I've never heard of it. I follow the Zone and know it is an old program but it works for my body and I consider it a lifestyle as well. I think it's important that we do. Thanks for sharing the information, as anyone can now look it up. I've read "The 17 Day Diet" by Dr. Mike Moreno and have heard the P.I.N.K. Method is all the rage. I stick with what works for me. But the more choices members have the more likely they can find what works for them. Kali
I love the Eat Clean Diet but I don't call it a diet :) it's a lifestyle for anyone of any age.
I have lost 84 pounds over the past year by following "the Zone" by Dr. Barry Sears.
I listen to the Fat2Fit podcast and on it - and their Website - they talk about eating and exercising like the thinner person you want to be. They recommend that you figure out how many calories you will need to eat at your goal weight and exercise like a person at that weight (with some provisions for if the gap between where you are and where you want to be is very large).
I lost about 20 pounds by eating 3 meals and 2 snacks, with protein at each one, running 3 times a week and going to Curves for strength training 3 times a week. You could substitute brisk walks for the runs.
