Average woman 5'4'' 140lbs

By October 1, 2010 - 6:32pm

Any women 5'4'' 140 lbs out there? According to statistics, women who are 5'4'' and 140lbs are average. What do you think/feel when you see women who are thinner than you? How do you keep yourself from engageing in disordered eating thoughts/behavior (for those who are recovered/in the process of recovery)?
I'm a 24 year old 5'4'' 140 lb female recovered anorexic/bulimic. Looking to help and be helped by others of similar background. What are your thoughts?

**No "pro- ED" responses please.**

Hi kxb8

Thanks for your post! You are exactly right - a 5'4" woman at 140lbs is just about 'average' in America! Your BMI is also considered normal.

When you are asking your questions, you are also saying that you are having a bit of difficulty in this area yourself, I think. When you see women who are thinner, what goes through YOUR mind? Are you tempted to give in to dangerous eating habits again or self-criticism?

One way to cope with this is by going to an ED support group - a face to face one preferably. Do you know if you have one of these near you? If not, take a look for one or we can also help you with this. Being around people just like you (and who understand where you're coming from) is really important for support and to also guide you in the right direction and to help you get than mental chatter you have going on in your mind about your weight. I had these thoughts in my mind a lot at one time, and the brain noise can be deafening!

Let us know if you need help finding a face-to-face group but know that you can always come here for support too (as you do already and we're very pleased you're here!).

PS - We monitor our posts and members carefully. Pro ED/pro-Ana sites or comments are unwelcome and will result in banning so please feel free to talk from your heart without fear of being drawn into old behaviors.
