Calling all women!
February is American Heart Month and Go Red for Women is kicking it off in style on February 4, 2011, with National Wear Red Day. Go Red for Women was created by the American Heart Association in 2004. The organization is a call to action--encouraging, educating, and empowering women to understand their risk factors for heart disease and change the course of their future. Heart disease still leads the pack as the number one killer of women, taking the lives of one out of every three women in the United States. Go Red for Women is committed to changing those statistics. On February 4th, you have the perfect opportunity to help spread the word. Men and women alike are encouraged to show their support and help to raise awareness of heart disease in women by wearing red.
You can also contribute to the mission of Go Red for Women by smart shopping. Each year, Go Red for Women partners with multiple different corporate sponsors who help promote the goals and mission of the program. You can join the effort by supporting the Go Red for Women corporate sponsors who help make it all happen. For example, in honor of Wear Red Day, corporate sponsor Macy’s is offering special savings to customers from February 2-6, 2011 who wear red. For a $2 donation, those who forget to wear red can purchase a Go Red for Women Red Dress pin and still receive the savings discount on their purchases. All donations go directly to Go Red for Women.
Numerous other Go Red for Women corporate sponsors also provide special discounts, create special Go Red for Women product offerings, make corporate contributions for every purchase made, or pledge direct donations. These special corporate programs are not limited to the month of February and can be found throughout the year. Shopping is something we all do and is an easy way to support the cause of eliminating heart disease in women. Corporate sponsors include Macy’s, Merck, Astral Brands, Campbell Soup Company, Cutco, Geoffrey Beene Gives Back, GreatCall/Jitterbug, Jewelry TV, Ocean Spray, Party City, Perfumania, Princess House, Rite Aid, SuperValu, and Yankee Candle.
